Tutorial-How I use masks

It was asked "I am new to making tags.  How do you use masks?"  So I thought I would write a quick tutorial on how I use masks.  There are several different ways on how to use them, this is how I found works best for me.  I usually do them at the end of making a tag so I can find which looks better.

With your bottom layer active, Copy and paste your paper of choice (you can also add a new raster layer and flood fill with the color/gradient of choice).  Now for the mask layer.  I don't download my masks (and I have lots!) into the PSP file.  I make a separate file for them as it tends to slow down PSP with how many I have.  So I open the folder that has my masks and choose one then I hit the minus button on it.  Now, Layers, New Mask Layer From Image and then you scroll down to find your mask choice and then hit OK.
These are the settings you want to use:
and this is how it should look (I just flood filled with red and applied the mask):

I hope this helps some!  If not please leave a message on here and I will do my best to explain.

  1. Thank you so much for this quick lesson. I have saved your page so I can come back and practice this. I am new to tagging and had actually been trying to learn the mask technique....
